BR19 is particularly unsafe due to the surface (very
boggy in Winter, rutted in Summer) - and due to the
close proximity of the lake to the bridlepath - only
leaving about 6ft between the lake and a barbed wire
fence. Add in the "scary" fishermen and
it is rare to pass through that bridlepath without
incident. I usually end up going backwards or my horse
spinning round at some point, it's only a matter of
time before we end up in the lake or on the barbed
wire fence. |

Pevensey by pass to castle. Traffic is very fast.
There should have been an under pass created when
the by pass was built. Amberstone to Carters Corner
(park wood) very dangerous) local residents have been
campaigning for 2 0r 3 years for speed reduction on
this road. |

BR33/34, I can remember riding down here 9 years
ago, it was horrendous then and I only ever went down
it once, I had to come back via the road. This was
open in 2008 and I tried it again, it was a no go,
the ruts were at least 18 inches deep, perfect for
a horse to trip and break a leg. I turned back after
about 25 metres, if it was repaired and cared for
a perfect bridleway but should not be available for
any motor vehicles for green laning, they are the
ones that do the damage and we get left with a completely
trashed bridleway. When the fence went up I wrongly
assumed it was being repaired but unfortunately not!!!
Come on ESCC get it sorted... |

Between Gun road and swansbrook road, if you meet
a horse coming the other way you are both stuck as
no-where to turn, path so narrow its one way traffic
only. Stream farm bridleway has been closed due to
dangerous bridge for over 12 months now, nothing appears
to be happening. |

BR 19 is our only access to "safe riding"
without having to access a very busy main road that
has had several serious accidents just in the last
six months. This is poorley maintained in parts and
a dangerous deviation has been developed riding a
very narrow path beside a lake that is often obstructed
by fishermen. As a land owner the council are very
quick at contacting me if the footpath/ style across
my land is not properly maintained and will charge
if they have to come out to maintain. The council
have spent a lot maintaining rarely used footpaths
and cycle tracks but seem to neglect bridleways. Horses
are a big trade in the area but one that is neglected
for support. |

In this area there must be 250 or more horses using
the lanes and paths. We do need all the BR's that
we have but 4x4's need to be kept off from damaging
them. Verges are now too narrow and need cutting frequently
as overgrown verges obstruct drivers view of us. Wear
reflective tabards! |

It would be good to open up more bridlepaths and/or
encourage more toll rides in the area. |

Slippery Road Surfaces. I have had a serious slip,
my 60 yr old mum came off my horse when he fell, and
our livery has fallen twice as her horse slid over,
once knocked unconscious and horse badly cut |
| 1 |
The bridlepaths in the area are completely unsusable
by horses and with the increased amount of traffic
using the lanes and the very slippery road surfaces
it needs something done before a fatal accident occurs

There is another really good bridleway which is
called the Vanguard Way the entrance to this is by
Pekes House at the end of Nash Street and takes you
out to the A267 it is a good bridleway if a little
stony at the beginning. At the end of the first section
you open a gate walk across a lane then through a
2nd gate (unfortunately not the easiest to open, but
I didnt need to dismount) then you get into a field
which is fairly well maintained, go through this and
then do a right and a left immediately and oh joy
fields you can have a canter in!!! I think that the
Vanguard Way travels behind Chiddingly as well, again
I did this 9 years ago, then it was in good condition
and I have not been on it since, albeit you had to
dodge cattle through one of the fields but you could
have a canter through I think 3 fields one straight
after the other. Fantastic!!! The other bridleways
we have which run from Chalvington Road up towards
ST Bedes then from Nash Street to the no through road
mentioned in BR33/34 are OK during the summer but
not the best in the winter, they could do with some
TLC just to make them more suitable for horses &
ponies, there are a few ruts and ditches which could
do with filling in and some cutting back. Again ESCC
time for some action!!! |
